It was revealed not long after the NFL Draft that two-way star Travis Hunter would be wearing No. 12 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team has now announced it, along with the ones the rest of the rookie class will be wearing.

The Jags announced on their official website the numbers the rookie class will be wearing. There are a few noteworthy choices. For instance, linebacker Jack Kiser was issued No. 54, which was previously worn by Foyesade Oluokun in 2022 and Greg Jones back in 2012.

On the other hand, running back Bhayshul Tuten will be rocking No. 33, which linebacker Devin Lloyd wore before. However, Lloyd announced earlier this year that he would be changing to No. 0, which was previously issued to wide receiver Gabe Davis in 2024 and Calvin Ridley the year prior.

Another noteworthy choice was safety Rayuane Layne III, who'll take No. 25, which running back James Robinson wore in 2021-2022. There's also defensive back Caleb Ransaw, who chose No. 27, issued to cornerback Rashean Mathis and running back Leonard Fournette. Below is the whole list:

  • Travis Hunter, WR - 12
  • Caleb Ransaw, DB - 27
  • Rayuane Layne III, S - 25
  • Bhayshul Tuten, RB, 33
  • Jonah Monheim, OL - 60
  • Wyatt Milum, OL - 64
  • LeQuint Allen Jr., RB - 36
  • Jack Kiser, LB, 54
  • Jalen McLeod, DE - 53

Travis Hunter and the rest of the Jaguars rookie class can carve a legacy

One look at the numbers the rookie class will be wearing shows that they aren't issued any numbers that prominent Jaguars alumni have previously worn. No disrespect to the likes of Calvin Ridley or A.J. Cann. Heck, the most notable number anyone will wear is Caleb Ransaw, and even then, it's not like he doesn't have the burden of having to live up to a legacy.

Sure, Leonard Fournette was a key cog on the Jacksonville offense in the late 2010s, and Rashean Mathis was a mainstay of a stout Jaguars defense in the 2000s. That said, neither is what you would consider a legend.

Circling back to the numbers, it's a good thing that the rookies picked numbers that don't have much history, as they'll be able to write their own. Who knows, maybe one of them will make their respective numbers as recognizable as Mark Brunell's No. 8, Fred Taylor's No. 28, or Tony Boselli's No. 71.

It's up to them to make the most of the blank canvas they've been given and re-write history.
