Jaguars haven’t looked that great through three weeks, but that could be a good thing

The Jacksonville Jaguars are clearly going through some growing pains, but they are still giving fans a reason to be excited.

After three weeks, the Jacksonville Jaguars are 2-1 — they should be 3-0, but referees don’t always do their job correctly. So with three of 17 regular season games complete, the Jaguars are one play away from having an undefeated team. If fans were told that would be the case, prior to the season, they’d be ecstatic. In reality, not everyone is as happy.

While Jaguars fans are thrilled the team is 2-1, there are quite a few concerns, because the team hasn’t looked that great. Trevor Lawrence has struggled throwing four interceptions through three games, Brian Thomas Jr. hasn’t looked like the receiver who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, and the team hasn’t quite unlocked Travis Hunter’s big-play ability yet, on either side of the ball. Still, the team is a bad call away from being 3-0, and that’s reason to be excited.

Jaguars winning games while not at their best should have fans excited about the future

Being able to win while not firing on all cylinders is an important skill that good competitors have. Teams are rarely at their best on game day, but they still have to figure out a way to win. So far this season, the Jaguars have been doing that, and that alone is great news.

Another reason fans should be pleased with the record, despite the team not looking that great is that Jacksonville has clear room for improvement. The team has a winning record, but could also get much better. If that improvement happens, the Jaguars will be in position to dominate teams and contend.

So for now, fans should be excited that Jacksonville is winning games while navigating growing pains. The team just needs to figure things out eventually, and start to win while also playing cleaner. If that never happens, there will be reason for the optimism to fade.
