The Jacksonville Jaguars underwent a roster overahul in the offseason. However, they kept their core intact and expect continuity at key position groups. One of them is the linebacker corps, which remains relatively intact ahead of the 2025 season in spite of the reinforcements it got. The unit appears to be a strength ahead of 2025 based on its overall level of talent and depth.
The group of Foyesade Oluokun, Devin Lloyd, and Ventrell Miller returns from 2024. The three of them performed relatively well last year despite the fact that the defense as a whole struggled. With defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen out and Anthony Campanile taking the reins, the trio should experience a notable improvement next season.
Oluokun has been a mainstay of the defense since he signed with the Jags in 2022. Heck, you could even make the case that he was their best free-agent signing that year. The Yale product has been a tackling machine the past three seasons, racking up 465 total tackles and 5.5 sacks in that span. The downside is that he didn't make nearly as many big plays last year, but that should change with Campanile at the helm.
Miller, for his part, rewarded the team's wait after missing his rookie season with an Achilles injury. A fourth-round pick in 2023, the former Florida Gator made the most of his chances when pressed intto action and even outplayed Lloyd. It wouldn't be shocking to see the two compete for the staring spot next to Olukun.
On the other hand, Lloyd is entering a contract season after having his fifth-year option declined. He's been a piledriver against the run but has struggled in coverage. It looks like the former first-round selection will get a chance to show improvement under the new regime.
Behind those three are Jack Kiser, a promising Day 3 selection who isn't a top athlete but excels at tracking the football and bringing the heat. Veteran Dennis Gardeck landed in Jacksonville after the draft and has also shown an affinity for getting after the quarterback. Lloyd has been the subject of trade speculation in the offseason, and if he leaves, either Kiser or Gardeck could move up the depth chart.
Rookie Jalen McLeod and Yasir Abdullah are also in the mix. Both are better suited to be outside linebackers in 3-4 defenses but offer depth in case Jacksonville dealt with injuries at linebacker.
The Jaguars LB corps is in great shape with Foyesade Oluokun leading the way
While several Jaguars position groups aren't making the top half in most power rankings, their linebacker corps is routinely cracking the top 10. Understandably so. Even if Devin Lloyd gets ultimately traded (and it looks like the team will hold onto him), the group should be in great shape with Foyesade Oluokun and Ventrell Miller in the fold.
The front four and the defensive backfield underwent more drastic changes in the offseason, so both units may need a bit of time to hit their stride. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville linebacker corps can get going right off the bat because of the continuity they enjoy.
