The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like a team on the verge of quitting against the Philadelphia Eagles. Facing a 22-0 deficit aided by some poor Trevor Lawrence play, a lack of quality skill position players, and two Eagles rushing touchdowns in which Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts were untouched, the ceiling was caving in on Doug Pederson.

The Jaguars managed to show a few glimpses of a pulse late in the third quarter. After Lawrence finished off a touchdown drive with a quarterback sneak that brought the score to 22-8, the defense had to find some way to keep Hurts and Kellen Moore at bat. In tandem with the refs, they did just that.

Barkley's first touch after a big Parker Washington catch and the Lawrence touchdown was a fumble that Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker ran back for a touchdown, juking about four Eagles out of the way in an impressive show of athletic ability. Lawrence converted another 2-point conversion to make it 22-16.

The Jaguars need to count their lucky stars after this play, as it appeared to be quite obvious that Barkley was down when he lost the ball. With just two wins on the season, the Jaguars need all the help they can get.

Jaguars get lucky with controversial Travon Walker fumble return TD

Looking at the video, even without a super close examination, can show that not only was Barkley's knee down, but most of his body was as well. The Jaguars can consider themselves extremely lucky this one was not called back and the touchdown stood.

This performance was fairly disheartening to start. Despite the fact that it was clear and obvious Philadelphia was going to run the ball all game long, Barkley and Hurts combined for 173 yards and two touchdowns on the ground with most of the third quarter elapsed. Luckily, the Jaguars were able to force timely turnovers.

On the next possession, Hurts was able to take the Eagles down to the Jaguars' 25-yard line. Instead of takign the field goal to go up by nine points and make it a two-score game, Nick Sirianni went for it on fourth down. After a Hurts incompletion, the Jaguars retained possession of the ball.

The Jaguars still face long odds when it comes to sealing the victory in this game, but lucky breaks like the one Walker took advantage of showed that this team may not have decided to throw in the towel on this cursed 2024 season just yet.
