Earlier this year, Cam Little found himself in the midst of a funk. But despite his struggles, the Jacksonville Jaguars gave him their vote of confidence. The sophomore kicker rewarded their team's trust with a head-turning performance against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

Aside from making a record-breaking field goal, Little later nailed a 33-yarder and the 45-yard attempt that allowed the Jags to take the game into overtime, where they won 30-29. To nobody's surprise, his bounce-back performance helped him earn an illustrious award.

Jaguars kicker Cam Little earns the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award

After making field goals of 68 and 45 yards against the Raiders, Cam Little became the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the first time in his brief career that the former Arkansas Razorback has taken home the award.

Just so you have an idea of how difficult it is to nail a 68-yard field goal, Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubry attempted one against the Arizona Cardinals one day after and failed. In case you wanted to see, here's a clip of Maxx Crosby reacting to Cam Little's record-shattering kick.

Before the Raiders game, Little had missed four attempts and one extra-point kick this season. This was concerning when you take into account that he only had two misses in his rookie year. Looking back, having head coach Liam Coen and special teams coach Heath Farwell in his corner most definitely helped him.

Cam Little was critical for the Jaguars in the win over the Raiders

This was most definitely the kind of game that Cam Little needed to get his confidence back. For his part, Liam Coen went as far as suggesting that saying that his record-breaking kick was the spark the Jags needed to beat Las Vegas. Here's the skinny.

"That was literally, that was what ignited us. I think, you know, they missed the extra point on their touchdown," Coen told the media. "We get it in field goal range, or we get in somewhat range. And for a guy that we have not lost confidence in, everybody's been trying to lose confidence in him, I know that for sure. And we have never lost confidence in him."

Coen continued, "And he went on the BYE, got away from it, and set an NFL record on his first kickback, and then makes, obviously, multiple critical kicks throughout the game to keep the thing going. Couldn't be more proud of him in this whole team."

Based on his remarks, Coen was aware that several outlets urged the Jaguars to bring in competition to push Little (guilty as charged). However, his trust in the Moore, Oklahoma native ultimately paid off when it mattered the most. Below is the head coach's exchange with reporters. His remarks about Little start at the 1:56 mark.

But even if Liam Coen had stated it, Cam Little's performance against the Raiders most definitely deserved Player of the Week honors. This is why nobody batted an eye that he got it.
