When the Jacksonville Jaguars reached the AFC Championship in 2017, they did it on the strength of their defense. Rightly, the unit was nicknamed Sacksonville due to its ability to consistently bring the heat to opposing quarterbacks. Fast forward to 2025, and the Jags are once again winning games because of their ballhawking defense.

And while the 2025 isn't racking as many sacks as its 2017 counterparts, it excels at creating takeaways. Rightly, cornerback Jourdan Lewis came up with a hilarious yet fitting nickname for the unit.

The Jaguars generated 4 takeaways in the win vs. the 49ers

The Jaguars entered the 49ers game with a league-best nine takeaways and registered four more in the 26-21 win to increase their total tally to 13. Heck, you could even make the case that they were the reason that they were able to come out on top.

Early in the fourth quarter, linebacker Dennis Gardeck forced a fumble. Late in the game and during a San Francisco comeback attempt, defensive tackle Arik Armstead sacked quarterback Brock Purdy and forced him to fumble. Linebacker Foyesade Oluokun picked it up to seal the win.

For his part, linebacker Devin Lloyd picked Purdy off in the second quarter. But because one interception wasn't enough for No. 0, he had another in the third quarter, giving him two for the day. Below is his second pick.

Sure, you could make the case that Anthony Campanile's group also gave up 21 points, but sometimes, you have to praise a defense for what it can do, not what it can't, and in the Jaguars' case, they're great at generating turnovers.

Jourdan Lewis gives the Jaguars defense a new nickname

Rightly, Jacksonville had the chance to feel boastful after the win, especially in light of the signal-stealing accusations Robert Saleh made just before the game. Jourdan Lewis, in particular, was feeling sassy and came up with a nickname for the defense. Behold: The Strapsonville defense.

Now, you may need to use your imagination to figure out why Lewis chose that name in particular. It may not stick, but he most definitely deserves points for its creativity. It's also worth noting that it didn't make sense for the veteran cornerback to go with Sacksonville or Sacksonville 2.0 because that was a whole different team.

The only player remaining from the Sacksonville era is Dawuane Smoot, who was a rookie that year. Moreover, Sacksonville was known for its penchant for logging sacks and preventing its opponents from scoring. That year, the Jags gave 16.7 points per game and registered 55.0 sacks.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Jags are surrendering 18 points per game (not bad at all) but have logged just six sacks. That said, they're winning because of their defense, and if they keep doing it, they'll be deserving of a nickname, even if it isn't the one Jourdan Lewis came up with.
