The Jacksonville Jaguars announced their official roster after the cutdown deadline. One day later, they revealed their practice squad. Something that stood out at the time was that the Jags had two spots open. They've since filled both of them and brought in another player along the way.
The team announced it signed three players, offensive lineman Eli Cox, safety Kaevon Merriweather, and tight end Hayden Rucci, to the practice squad. As noted before, Jacksonville had two spots open, so Jimto Obidgwu was released to pave the way for all three.
Now, the Jags have completed their practice squad. Unlike other players, they have 17 spots because they get an extra slot with Kilian Zierer, as part of the league's International Player Pathway Program.

The Jaguars had several tough roster decisions. Although they managed to keep preseason standout Bryan Thomas Jr. on the active roster, fellow undrafted rookies Michael Wortham and Trebor Pena didn't make the cut. Fortunately for Jacksonville, both of them cleared waivers and returned to the practice squad.
Similarly, veteran receiver Austin Trammell is back on the practice squad. He made the 53-man roster last year. Undrafted rookie J'Mari Taylor also got the nod after being released on cutdown day. He flashed in the offseason program, but Ameer Abdullah ended up being the better of the two.
However, the biggest roster snub might have been cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, who showed substantial progress from last year and was competing for CB5. Ultimately, though, Christian Braswell came out on top.

Several players from the Jaguars practice squad could see the field in 2026
It's quite common for players from the practice squad to get promoted on game day. Heck, defensive tackle Matt Dickerson and tight end Quintin Morris were originally signed to the practice squad last year, but were signed to the active roster late in the season once they were promoted three times, the most the league allows. Both Morris and Dickerson made the initial 53-man roster in 2026.
Anyway, the Jags have previously promoted Austin Trammell or Tim Jones, so nobody would bat an eye if they once again do next season. Similarly, Jabbar Muhammad or J'Mari Taylor could be elevated on game day if Jacksonville deals with injuries at their respective positions.
The truth is that the Jaguars put together a well-rounded roster, but if they ever need reinforcements, their practice squad also looks in good shape, so they won't hesitate to promote a player or two if needed next season.
