It's only OTAs but the Liam Coen cup already overflows with praise

Jags fans should be stoked to hear this!

The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering Year 1 of the Liam Coen experiment and are hoping that it turns into a long-term relationship. Coen was brought in after spending the 2024 season as the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator and the Jaguars are hoping that he can do for Trevor Lawrence what he did with Baker Mayfield last year.

One player who believes that Coen is the real deal is one who has played with him in several different spots. That player is quarterback John Wolford, who spent time with Coen in Los Angeles and Tampa Bay.

While speaking to the media about the Jags' new head coach, Wolford said, “There’s something that’s hard to pinpoint and describe about a playcaller that gets in a rhythm and he gets in a rhythm a lot.”

Jaguars are quickly realizing Liam Coen could be the real deal

One blemish on Coen's resume to this point is that he hasn't stayed in one place for long. Since 2020, he's bounced around to a different team every year, spending that year with the Rams, then moving to Kentucky for a year in 2021, back to the Rams in 2022, back to Kentucky in 2023, to the Bucs in 2024, and now to the Jaguars in 2025.

The difference is that Coen has the keys to the car in Jacksonville and it sounds like that should be a very good thing for Trevor Lawrence and the Jags offense. Fans were excited when Doug Pederson was brought in but after one promising year, it all went downhill from there.

The hope is that Coen can turn things around in Jacksonville and while Wolford is only a backup quarterback, the fact that he's worked with Coen in multiple spots is telling to what kind of leader he'll be for this offense. Jags fans sure hope Wolford is telling the truth here because it'd be nice to see Lawrence live up to his potential and for this team to turn things around and become playoff (and eventually Super Bowl) contenders.
