The Jacksonville Jaguars drew up a detailed plan to bring rookie Travis Hunter along. They began his onboarding on offense in the offseason, and he started to get reps on defense by mandatory minicamp. With training camp now at full swing, the Jags have done their best to balance his workload and get the most out of the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner without overwhelming him. So far, he's had no trouble handling it all.
Hunter met with the local media after Day 3 of training camp and talked about the team's plan to split his time on both offense and defense. For starters, he seems unfazed.
"You know, they actually trust, and they put in a lot on my plate," Hunter responded when asked about his workload. "I just got to go out there and continue to attack the work that they give me."
Later, the West Palm Beach native said that he isn't necessarily the last man out of the building because of extra assignments, pointing out that he gets the same amount of time as his teammate.
"Nah, it's the same as everybody else, but I got a little bit of extra work on my plate, and I just continue to switch between the meetings," Hunter noted.
He later acknowledged that his routine is very organized, though, "Me and coach go over pretty much every week, and they send me a picture, and I get a piece of paper to keep in my locker room, so I know exactly where I gotta be and when I need."
This is noteworthy because there have been questions about Hunter's viability as a two-way player and the Jags' ability to handle his workload. So far, neither has been a concern.
Just recently, defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile praised head coach Liam Coen for laying out a plan to get the most out of Hunter.

Travis Hunter is making the most of the Jaguars' training-camp plan
That Travis Hunter isn't having any trouble getting acclimated to the NFL shouldn't be a surprise. Throughout his collegiate career, he routinely showcased his game-changing talent, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have done a superb job of channeling his energy.
Now, there's a chance Hunter won't play two ways full-time as a rookie, but that's because of personnel reasons. He certainly has the talent to pull it off, but the Jags are loaded at both wide receiver and cornerback, so they can afford to bring the former Colorado Buffalo slowly. It doesn't mean that they will, or that he'll spend significant time on the sidelines, but rather that the coaching staff can dose him in order to maximize his production.
Ultimately, Hunter is too talented not to play, but the Jaguars know that they can't overwork him, so they've put a plan in place to get the most out of him. So far, it's working.
