The Jacksonville Jaguars don't truly have any glaring roster weakness but could most definitely use depth at a handful of positions. For instance, they have a pair of scary pass rushers in Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen, but the rotation behind them is a work in progress. Granted, the cupboard isn't fully bare, but the Jags don't have a clear-cut No. 3 right now.
Sophomore Danny Striggow is projected to make a leap next season. On top of that, Jacksonville just drafted Wesley Williams and Zach Durfee in Rounds 4 and 7. However, all three may still need time to put it all together. This should prompt the team's brass to look for external options to bolster the pass rush. The issue is that one of the best options just went up in smoke.
The Cardinals aren't trading Josh Sweat
Josh Sweat has been the subject of trade chatter after skipping OTAs. Then it was reported that the Arizona Cardinals had entertained calls for him. However, Ian Rapoport emphatically shut down the speculation, pointing out that the Cards aren't planning on moving the veteran pass rusher.
For the sake of transparency, the Jags haven't been linked to Sweat. In fact, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers were reportedly his most likely suitors. That said, it wouldn't hurt general manager James Gladstone to give Arizona a call and do due diligence.
After all, things are always fluid in the NFL. What's true now may not be in a couple of months, and there are still a few months before the start of the season, so Jacksonville has most definitely time to add reinforcements to the pass rush.
What makes Sweat so appealing is that he registered a career-best 12 sacks in 2025 and had a combined 14.5 in the prior two years. On top of that, he has a manageable cap hit of $10.8 million in 2026 and $18.1 million each of the next two years. Simply put, trading for him would address a concern without having to break the bank.
On a related note, Nick Herbig just signed a four-year deal worth $100 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers, effectively taking him off the trade market.
The Jaguars have pass-rush options with Josh Sweat off the board
With Josh Sweat seemingly off the table, the Jaguars may need to turn their attention to a pair of free agents who remain unsigned. Both Cameron Jordan and Jadeveon Clowney are coming off productive seasons but have yet to sign with a team. It's possible that no club has yet to meet their respective contract demands, but things could change as the regular season comes closer.
The Jags have $9.5 million in space, so they can definitely sign Jordan or Clowney. But even if they needed more space, they have a handful of post-June 1 candidates to get relief. Having said that, the front office may want to see how their pass rushers fare in training camp before bringing in external help.
Either way, the Jaguars cannot simply disregard the idea of bolstering the pass rush, even if Josh Sweat is no longer available.
