Following the short-lived Urban Meyer era, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a splash in 2022, signing several free agents to address the larger scale roster. Some of the players they brougth in went on to have an immediate impact. However, a few others left much to be desired. Defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi most definitely falls in the latter category.

Fatukasi spent two underwhelming campaigns in Duval and was given the boot in 2024. He quickly latched onto the Houston Texans, where he played the last two years. The former UConn Huskey became a free agent in 2025 but had to wait several months before the Las Vegas Raiders came calling.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that Las Vegas signed Fatukasi in light of injuries on the defensive line. While

The Raiders signed Folorunso Fatukasi to bolster their interior defensive line

Before signing with the Raiders, Foley Fatukasi had tryouts with the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions. Based on the fact that neither team signed him, it's fair to assume that they weren't impressed. However, Las Vegas needed immediate help on the interior defensive line.

It's worth noting that defensive tackle Benito Jones was shown the door just one day after signing Fatukasi. That may be a sign that the Silver & Black believes he can make an impact. However, they should temper expectations.

Dating back to his stint in Jacksonville, Fatukasi has dealt with injuries. During his stint with Houston, he missed 19 games. A shoulder injury limited him to just four contests last year. But even in 2023, when the Far Rockaway, New York native suited up for 16 games, he was underwhelming, registering no sacks and tallying just 24 total tackles. The Jags cut ties with him in 2024 to free up $3.2 million in space.

Perhaps this is the year Fatukasi stays healthy and makes an impact in the desert, but history is working against him.

Foley Fatukasi failed to make an impact with the Jaguars

When the Jaguars gave Folorunso Fatukasi a three-year deal worth $30 million in 2022, they thought he was going to shore up the interior defensive line alongside DaVon Hamilton. However, he failed to come through. You could even make the case that because he didn't deliver, defensive tackle was a roster void for a couple years. Jacksonville tried several options — Adam Gotsis, Jeremiah Ledbetter, and Austin Johnson, among others — but none of them panned out.

After releasing Fatukasi, the Jags tried to address the interior defensive line with Maason Smith and Arik Armstead to mixed results. Smith was traded to the Atlanta Falcons after two unremarkable seasons, while Arik Armstead has dealt with ups and downs the past two years. However, he's expected to contribute in 2025 after being slowed down by a hand injury last year.

Looking back, the Folorunso Fatukasi signing had ramifications that the Jags had to deal with even after cutting ties with him. And his lack of production is one of the many reasons former general manager Trent Baalke was shown the door in 2025.
