The Jacksonville Jaguars made several questionable moves in 2024 that led to a full collapse. One that isn't discussed nearly enough was claiming wide receiver Josh Reynolds off waivers midseason. Expected to give the passing game a boost, the veteran wide out was instead a non-factor. Not surprisingly, he was let go in free agency and had to wait several weeks to find a new home.
Bobby Thompson of Latino Sports reports that Reynolds is signing a one-year deal worth $5 million with the New York Jets. This is more or less on par with the salary he would've gotten if Jacksonville had kept him around in 2025.
Other outlets, such as Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, later confirmed the news.
The #Jets are signing FA WR Josh Reynolds today, sources say, and he gets a 1-year deal worth up to $5M.

Originally, the Jags got Reynolds when the Denver Broncos waived him midseason. They picked him up and his contract. He ultimately didn't do much of note in Jacksonville, appearing in four games with one start and racking up one catch for 11 yards.
Granted, Reynolds wasn't the reason the Jags went 4-13 but acquiring him most definitely showcased the kind of decision making that held the teams. Releasing him freed up $4.3 million in cap space, which the team later used to sign wide receiver Dyami Brown, among other players, in free agency.
A fourth-round pick by 2017. Reynolds has played for the Los Angeles Rams, the Detroit Lions, the Broncos and more recently the Jags. He's appeared in 116 games with 55 starts and hauled in 233 catches for 3,127 yards with 20 touchdowns.
Reynolds was one of many players Jacksonville cut ties with just before the start of free agency. Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, Ronald Darby, and Devin Duvernay also got the boot.

Josh Reynolds didn't figure in the Jaguars long-term plans
Josh Reynolds was a productive player with the Los Angeles Rams and later the Detroit Lions. However, he's been unspectacular in recent years. This is why nobody was surprised when the Jacksonville Jaguars released him ahead of free agency.
Now, Reynolds will get a chance to continue his career with the New York Jets. However, expectations should be tempered based on how he performed in 2024. The Jaguars, for their part, won't probably miss him much. Although they lost him and Christian Kirk, they locked up Dyami Brown in free agency and should keep making further additions to their wide receiver corps in the draft.
