With ascending cornerback Montaric Brown due to hit free agency and possibly pricing himself out of town, the salary cap-challenged Jacksonville Jaguars should be looking for a cornerback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Brown should have no shortage of suitors for his services, which makes it even trickier for the Jags to retain him. Obviously, Jacksonville would love to re-sign All-Pro linebacker Devin Lloyd, but that's its own uphill battle.
Might not be as easy as fans anticipate to run this thing back and expect 13 wins again in 2026. Then again, if GM James Gladstone can find a passable starter opposite newly minted full-time cornerback Travis Hunter, this Jags defense could go to a whole other level.
One major publication believes Jacksonville can find an ideal running mate for Hunter in the second round of the draft.
Bleacher Report names Ohio State CB Davison Igbinosun dream Jaguars draft target
In a creative piece over at the big B/R, Gary Davenport came up with a dream draft target for all 32 teams — and didn't limit the scope of the concept to just the first round.
Well I kind of spoiled that in the intro. In any event, Mr. Davenport has the Jags fetching Ohio State Buckeyes star Davison Igbinosun to lock down that CB2 spot. The most salient bits of analyzer rationale is as follows:
"As the team heads into 2026, there is potential for significant turnover at cornerback, and after the Travis Hunter trade last year, the Jaguars no longer have a first-round pick. [...] Igbinosun is a physical corner who can play both outside and in the slot. Perhaps most importantly for the Jaguars, Igbinosun has loads of experience, including quite a bit playing zone coverage last year in Matt Patricia's defense in Columbus."
Gladstone kicking off his second draft class by selecting Davison Igbinosun would certainly be a choice. To invoke Cris Collinsworth as I cite PFF stats, *now here's a guy* who's only one full season removed from being whistled for a ridiculous number of penalties. Thirteen, to be precise.
Some of that is just the fiery, competitive dawg that resides within Davison's organs. Some of it is a lack of discipline, lack of attention to detail technique-wise, and all that cornerback shortcoming jazz.
To his credit, Igbinosun got into the lab this past offseason and clearly worked on his craft. Cut those penalties down to only five. Allowed an exceptionally low 43.4 passer rating.
I managed to score Igbinosun at Pick 100 in Round 3 in a recent Jaguars mock draft, which passed the sniff test on PFF's simulator. Taking a swing on him with the 56th overall pick is quite bold, or so it seems compared to the consensus big board, where he ranks 75th as of this writing. I've got him at 80th, so he still felt like good value in that aforementioned mock.
But look, defensive backs work out at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Friday. Igbinosun is about to light that showcase up Taio Cruz-style. That should only boost his stock.
If the Jags could add Igbinosun with one of their three third-rounders to complement Hunter, and draft LSU safety A.J. Haulcy to pair with Antonio Johnson, that'd be quite the haul. It's 100% in play, especially if Gladstone gets frisky and trades up again, like he did for Hunter in 2025.
