Doug Pederson's tone deaf reaction to blowout loss is why the Jaguars need to move on

Stop me if you've heard this one before -- The Jacksonville Jaguars lost again, dropping them to 2-9 on the season. This was supposed to be a somewhat competitive year for the Jags after they finished 9-8 in back-to-back seasons but that's not been the case.

Not only did the Jags lose their ninth game of the year but they got absolutely dog walked by the Detroit Lions. The game was never close and the Jaguars ended up losing by 46 points. That's not a typo either. They lost by a score of 52-6 and failed to even find the end zone in the blowout loss.

You'd think after getting eviscerated that head coach Doug Pederson would have more concrete plans moving forward but that wasn't the case when he was asked about the playcalling. Jaguars reporter Mia O'Brien asked if playcalling is something that Pederson would consider changing and his response shows exactly why the organization needs to hand him his walking papers.

"Umm..." Pederson said awkwardly and then made things even more uncomfortable by taking a very long pause before continuing. "Gosh, I really wish -- ummm... Everything... let's just put it this way: Everything's on the table. Let's leave it at that."

Doug Pederson was clueless when asked about potential playcalling changes

At this point, Pederson has to know the end is in sight when it comes to his head coaching tenure in Jacksonville. What once looked like a slam-dunk hire in 2022 now looks like a disaster, as the Jaguars continue to regress each week. The players don't look like they want to be there and that falls on coaching.

There's no doubt that Pederson will be relieved of his coaching duties between now and the end of the season so maybe that's why he's not making any changes. He knows nothing he does is likely going to save him, so why bother?

I'm not saying that I agree with this approach but that could be why he was at a loss of what to say when asked a pretty easy question. The offense has been atrocious this year and yes, Trevor Lawrence was out this past week but the offense looked bad even under the former first overall pick, which is concerning. Pederson and Press Taylor were supposed to continue to help Lawrence improve but he's regressed since his prolific 2022 season.

It's not fun having to hit the reset button and rebuild but the Jaguars have to do it. These comments from Doug Pederson are yet another reason why it's time to just cut their losses and move on.
