Earlier this week, head coach Doug Pederson said that left tackle Walker Little won't suit up for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17. A few days later, a couple more players have been ruled out against the Tennessee Titans.
Doug Pederson told the local media Friday that Savage will sit out the divisional game, pointing out that he's still in concussion protocol. He also said that linebacker Ventrell Miller won't go either.
"I wouldn't expect him to go," Pederson responded when asked about Savage's availability. "He's in a protocol. Wouldn't expect him and don't expect Ventrell, same thing, ankle. Don't expect him to play. And then, of course, Walker, yeah, everybody else good."
Savage suffered a concussion in the 19-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and has been on protocol ever since. Veteran Andrew Wingard stepped in his place, playing a season-high 63 defensive snaps and registering a team-best three passes defensed in the game. The former Wyoming Cowboy will get the starting nod against Tennessee.
Little, on the other hand, was ruled out earlier this week. He suffered an ankle injury in the loss to the Raiders, and Cole Van Lanen filled in for him at left tackle. He'll do so again Sunday.
Miller also suffered an injury against Las Vegas. He's been playing time despite the fact that he's behind Devin Lloyd and Foye Oluokun on the depth chart. Given that the sophomore linebacker is a reserve, his absence should not be a reason for concern. Here's the final injury report for Week 17. Miller, Little, and Savage have been ruled out. LInebacker Yasir Abdullah was ruled as questionable.
On the opposite sideline, the Titans ruled out offensive lineman Dillon Radunz, kicker Nick Folk, linebacker Ottis Reese, and wide receiver Colton Dowell. Safety Amani Hooker, wide receiver Tyler Boyd, and running back Tony Pollard got the questionable tag.
The Jaguars will need to overcome injuries to beat the Titans
All things considered, Walker Little's absence will be the biggest one for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Then again, Cole Van Lanen fared well in his absence, giving up just one total pressure and posting a solid Pro Football Focus overall grade of 62.5. But even if the former Wisconsin Badger shows out, this will probably be a close matchup, like any other between divisional foes.
The Jags are currently a 1.0-point favorite. They already beat the Tennessee Titans once this season and will be in a position to sweep their division foes. Working in their favor is that Mason Rudolph got the starting nod behind center.
On the other hand, losing would increase the Jaguars' chance of ending up with a great position in the 2025 NFL Draft. Then again, the prospect of beating Tennessee twice in the season may be too good to pass up, so expected a motivated Jacksonville team to show up Sunday.
