The Jacksonville Jaguars are taking care of their homegrown talent, re-signing Montaric Brown in free agency and extending pass rusher Travon Walker. It's great to see general manager James Gladstone make an aggressive effort to keep the core that helped the team go 13-4 in 2025, but he still has his work cut out for him.

After Walker, Gladstone needs to continue with the trio of safety Antonio Johnson, tight end Brenton Strange, and wide receiver Parker Washington. All three are eligible for new deals. And the sooner the Jags get them under contract, the better, as they'll be able to turn their attention to another building block who'll be eligible for a new deal in 2027.

The Jaguars will have to pay Cam Little more after the Cowboys extended Brandon Aubrey

One player that often isn't discussed as an extension candidate is Cam Little, and understandably so. He's yet to become eligible for a new deal until 2027, but the Jaguars probably won't want him to leave, so the sooner they pay him, the better. The issue is that his stock just went up after the Dallas Cowboys gave fellow kicker Brandon Aubrey a four-year extension worth $28 million that pays him $10 million in 2026.

Aubrey just became the first kicker to get an annual average of $7 million, and salaries at the position will only keep going up. Before he got his new contract, Kaimi Fairbairn and Harrison Butker were the highest-paid kickers at $6.5 million and $6.4 million per year, respectively. Little should get that or even more.

Even though Little was snubbed from the Pro Bowl, he was arguably the best kicker in the NFL, completing 88.8 percent of his attempts. On top of that, he went 8-of-11 in kicks from 50 yards out. But wait, there's more. The former Arkansas Razorback nailed field goals of 67 and 68 yards, becoming the first kicker in NFL history to make two attempts of 65-plus yards in the same season.

Simply put, Little gives the Jaguars a cornerstone at kicker, and they'll need to do whatever they can to prevent him from leaving.

The Jaguars have time to strike a deal with Cam Little

Working in the Jaguars' favor is that Little doesn't become a free agent until 2028, so they still have ample time to get a deal done. As noted before, he's not even eligible for an extension yet. This gives the team's brass plenty of time to lock up other players and take care of their star kicker at the due time.

On the other hand, other kickers could get new deals in the meantime. That will only keep pushing salaries up, so the best course of action may be to extend Little next offseason.

Kickers don't get as much love as other positions, but having a good one certainly increases your odds of winning, especially if it comes down the last minute of the game. That's why the Jaguars must extend Cam Little as soon as they can.
