Charles Demmings' full NFL Combine showing checked every box for Jaguars

Not quite as much of a sleeper as he was before...

If the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for strong candidates to start at boundary cornerback opposite Travis Hunter, they may want to double up on them in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Beginning on Day 2 in particular, this class of corners is deep as any in recent memory. Unless the cap-challenged Jags can bring back Montaric Brown or Greg Newsome, they should be looking at the crop of rookies.

Thanks to his strong NFL Scouting Combine showcase, Stephen F. Austin cornerback Charles Demmings could be a target for Jacksonville.

Charles Demmings' NFL Scouting Combine performance ought to cement status as Jaguars draft target

We actually picked Demmings in our recent mock draft, with the 124th overall pick in Round 4. That'd be after the Jags' second-round pick and three third-round selections — and what a value Demmings would be at that spot.

Based on his consensus big board ranking of 253rd, though, you'd think Demmings was almost undraftable. Folks might need to watch the tape and adjust their boards.

Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman went from a consensus Round 2 guy to a first-round lock at the Combine, or so the narrative appeared to be. Where's more love for Demmings, though?

Some of us had Theineman worthy of the first round before the Combine, and had Demmings ranked 90th before the proceedings went down in Indy.

Demmings has excellent size, long speed, ball skills, and even at the FCS level, he allowed only a 39.8 passer rating last season with four interceptions. He also missed just one tackle in run support, and gave up a 45.8% completion rate over the past three years.

If this doesn't sound like a guy who embraces the challenge of playing on an island and having an attack mindset when the stake are highest, I don't know what does...

Demmings has the type of raw athleticism and uncanny nose for the ball that'd fit very well as a long-term CB2 option to complement Hunter. I've written about a lot of different fits to play with the Jags' 2025 No. 2 overall pick, but if Jacksonville GM James Gladstone does indeed go the draft route, Charles Demmings should absolutely be one of the picks.

Yes, there is risk due to the jump in competition. That's offset by Demmings' years-long production and obvious high football character intangibles. He's the type of "dawg" Gladstone, head coach Liam Coen, and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile are looking for to boost their secondary.
