When Cam Little went through a rough stretch early in the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars stood behind him. The decision could have backfired if he hadn't been able to bounce back, but the sophomore kicker repaid the team's trust with a couple of historic outings.

Against the Las Vegas Raiders, Little set a new NFL record for the longest field goal when he nailed a 68-yarder. He then made a 67-yard kick against the Tennessee Titans in the finale against the Tennessee Titans.

Now, the former Arkansas Razorback holds the record for the two longest field goals in league history. And because he's made it look so easy, critics are demanding changes to the rules.

NFL voice argues the rules give Jaguars kicker Cam Little an unfair advantage

After Cam Little made his 67-yard field goal, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post argues that the NFL must tweak the rules, arguing that kicking has become too easy. The silver lining is that his remarks faced pushback, with several fans pointing out that no other kicker was making field goals as long as Little's. That said, kicking has indeed become more efficient in recent years, though.

Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk pointed out that kickers were 12-of-22 in attempts from 60 yards out after going 4-of- 15 the year prior. That said, he doesn't attribute the success to the rules, but rather to skill. And that's the thing, kickers such as Little or Brandon Aubrey — he made three field goals of 60+ yards in 2025 — aren't the norm in the NFL.

Kickers are still missing 50+ yard field goals at a high rate, and only a few have the leg strength to nail attempts of more than 60 yards. Heck, Little missed two attempts of 50+ yards this season (he also made eight), so kicking isn't an automatic three points.

Cam Little does give the Jaguars an edge at kicker

The argument that the rules need to change because kicking is easy is silly. It's like saying that the league needs to make it more difficult to throw the ball because a quarterback threw for 50 touchdowns in a season. Simply, some kickers are better than others, and the Jaguars shouldn't be penalized just because they happen to have a good one in Cam Little.

It's also worth noting that Little was the third kicker taken in the 2024 draft. Will Reichard and Joshua Karty went before him, so you can tell that other teams had no idea he was going to turn out to be that accurate.

The bottom line is that the Jaguars do have a pretty good kicker in Cam Little, and they won't hesitate to use him as much as possible. That's what other teams would do if they had an edge, right?
