Cam Bynum mocks Jaguars by imitating infamous Olympian in savage INT celebration
The Jacksonville Jaguars made a last-ditch effort to beat the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10. Unfortunately, they came up short. With less than two minutes to go, quarterback Mac Jones targeted wide receiver Gabe Davis but they weren't on the same page. Cornerback Cam Bynum took advantage of their lack of communication and picked off the pass. He proceeded to celebrate in a very creative way.
Following his game-sealing interception, Bynum imitated former Olympian athlete Rachel Gunn, aka Raygun, performing her infamous breakdancing routine to celebrate after the play.
Raygun went viral because she was pretty bad, losing three round-robin battlers 18-0 in the Olympics. At the time, she was aware she wasn't going to be able to top other athletes, so she devised an unorthodox routine that made her the subject of memes and criticism. Here's where Bynum got his inspiration.
It's worth noting that Raygun just retired a few days before the Minnesota win over the Jags, citing all the backlash and negative attention she got as the reason why. She says that it's no longer the same: "It's not going to be the same experience because of everything that's at stake," Raygun said on a radio station.
Bynum had been preparing the celebration for more than a week, he said as much in a message on social media. The post precedes Raygun's retirement announcement, so he probably didn't do it as a tribute and instead just found it funny.
Cam Bynum's was the ultimate show of disrepsect and the Jaguars deserve it
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 2-8 following the loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10, and it's no exaggeration to say that they're one of the worst teams in the NFL. That's why Cam Bynum's celebration seems appropriate.
The one day when the Jacksonville defense did its part and kept the Vikings away from the end zone, the offense couldn't come through. This wouldn't be an issue if this were a one-time thing, but the loss to Minnesota was a microcosm of how their 2024 season has unfolded: Whether it's a drop, a blown coverage, a bad read, the Jaguars have found different ways to lose. That's most definitely both discouraging and infuriating at the same time.
After all, the Jaguars were supposed to bounce back after revamping their roster and the coaching staff in the offseason. Unfortunately, they cannot seem to get out of their own way. Not surprisingly, they're in contention for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While teams would love to get the top selection, that wasn't probably the organization's goal when the season started.
The bottom line is that the Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the worst teams in the NFL and Cam Bynum wasted no time proving it with his Raygun celebration. Obviously, he had no ill will and intended no harm. Simply, he was having fun, and the Jaguars deserve all the flak they're getting for being bad at football.
