This hire could have multiple ripple effects in Jacksonville.

What a bizarre week it has been for the Jacksonville Jaguars. To begin with, the team lost out on hiring Ben Johnson when he chose the Chicago Bears job.

And then, the Liam Coen saga began. Jacksonville had originally thought they also lost out on Coen when it was reported that he agreed to a new deal, staying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Jaguars, of course, decided it was now time to fire general manager Trent Baalke.

Thursday night, everything changed even more drastically because of the Baalke news.

The story on Coen spurning the Buccaneers might define him for his tenure in Tampa Bay, but he's now agreed to become the next head coach in Jacksonville, having an opportunity to re-write the narrative which was quickly written this week.

With Coen now in Jacksonville, it could be an opportunity for Trevor Lawrence to finally see some sustained success and develop into the guy everyone thought he could be as a former no. 1 overall pick.

The coming months could see Coen give this roster a new look, though, as free agency is set to take place in less than two months' time. Could he bring some familiar faces with him to Jacksonville? Tampa Bay is looking at over 20 players coming off their books, and some are ripe for the picking.

Liam Coen could add three potential starters to the Jaguars by way of Tampa Bay

Ben Bredeson, G

The Jaguars could be losing starting guard Brandon Scherff to free agency, and Coen's familiarity with Ben Bredeson could make him a candidate to sign in Jacksonville. Over the past two seasons, Bredeson has only missed one game, starting all 17 this past season.

More Jaguars news:

The former Michigan Wolverine will turn 27 in February and has a chance to follow his former offensive coordinator in free agency if he desires.

Chris Godwin, WR

Last season, Chris Godwin's season-ending injury was a brutal hit for the Bucs offense. But, it also allowed someone like rookie Jalen McMillan to flourish down the stretch. It seems highly unlikely Godwin returns to Tampa Bay based on McMillan's potential.

In Jacksonville, he could be exactly what this offense needs. Allowing some pressure to be taken off Brian Thomas Jr., Godwin's experience as one of the better wide receivers in the league over the past several years could give this offense a real one-two punch.

Mike Edwards, S

Jacksonville is going to see starting safety Andre Cisco hit free agency as well, and if they cannot bring him back, Mike Edwards would be an option. The former third-round pick has 27 pass breakups and eight interceptions since being drafted in 2019.

Last year, in eight games played (two starts), Edwards did not give up a single touchdown in coverage and only allowed an opposing passer rating of 70.8.
