The Jacksonville Jaguars added reinforcement to the defensive line in the offseason, trading for Ruke Orhroro before the draft and later taking Albert Regis in Round 3. The front office also found an undrafted gem in Bryan Thomas Jr., who made the 53-man roster. When you factor in that the likes of Travon Walker and B.J. Green II are ready to take their game to the next level, the defensive front could turn out to be a strength in 2026. In Week 1, the Jags will get to test the changes.
Jacksonville will welcome the Cleveland Browns in the season opener. One of the biggest storylines ahead of the game is that the Browns made several changes to their offensive line, and two rookies will start in Week 1, giving Walker and Josh Hines-Allen a great matchup.
The Jaguars' D-Line will face two rookie O-linemen vs. the Browns
NFL analyst Andrew Siciliano posted on Twitter that Cleveland will start two rookie offensive hog mollies against the Jags, adding that the Browns will roll out a totally retooled offensive line (compared to Week 1 of the previous season) since 1990.
In case you were wondering, the rookies are left tackle Spence Fano and Austin Barber, who'll fill in for right guard Teven Jenkins.
Now, Fano was Cleveland's first-round selection in 2026, so it wasn't particularly surprising to learn that he would be a Week 1 starter. Like any rookie, though, he's going to deal with the growing pains of making the leap at the NFL level, giving Josh Hines-Allen a favorable matchup in Week 1. On the other hand, Barber was a third-round selection. He'll line up against Arik Armstead and DaVon Hamilton, but could also face Travon Walker if he gets snaps at defensive tackle.
Either way, the Jaguars have the edge over Cleveland at the line of scrimmage.

The Jaguars can beat the Browns if the pass rush does its job
Ideally, the Jaguars will bring the heat against Cleveland, but the impact of their run defense cannot be overstated. Jacksonville excelled at stuffing the run in 2025, and there's no reason to believe that will change next season.
If the Jackonville defensive front can contain the Browns' running game, it will force Deshaun Watson to put the game on his hands. Watson has given the Jags lots of trouble, going 7-1 against them in his career. That said, he's no longer the same quarterback that terrified them when he was with the Houston Texans.
Since being traded to the Browns in 2022, Watson has only made 19 starts, completing 61.2 percent of his throws for 3,365 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Of course, Jacksonville won't take him lightly, but it's fair to say that defending him won't be nearly as much of a challenge as having to deal with Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, or Patrick Mahomes.
Simply put, the Jaguars have a prime opportunity to get off to a strong start to the 2026 season if their defensive line can dominate the line of scrimmage. Having to face a pair of rookie offensive linemen will definitely make things considerably easier.
