The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a massive hit when they lost Evan Engram for the season. However, having Brenton Strange would help them lessen the blow, or at least that's what the Jags thought. However, the sophomore tight end was one of many who played a role in the disappointing 19-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16.
Coming off a productive outing against the New York Jets in Week 15, Strange had only two catches for 22 yards against the Raiders. To make matters worse, he lost a fumble that cornerback Thomas Harper recovered. Then again, the Penn State Nittany Lion wasn't the only Jaguars player who couldn't come through.
Without in mind, here are other Jaguars who failed to deliver in Week 16.
Tank Bigsby, running back
Brenton Strange wasn't the only Jaguar who lost a fumble. One drive before the former Auburn Tiger gifted the Raiders a possession, running back Tank Bigsby also lost the football. Again, Isaiah Pola-Mao was the player behind it.
Granted, Tank Bigsby wasn't particularly bad, toting the rock 12 times for 50 yards with a touchdown. However, his turnover tainted what was an otherwise solid performance.
Tyson Campbell, cornerback
Cornerback Tyson Campbell has held his own more often than not this season, and it was no different against the Raiders. However, he gave up a long reception to wide receiver Tre Tucker that set Las Vegas' first touchdown of the game.
In his defense, the back seven struggled to contain rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who went over 1,000 yards for the season.
Tim Jones, wide receiver
Nobody would expect Tim Jones to suddenly explode (figuratively) for the Jaguars. After all, he's mostly played on special teams throughout his stint with the Jaguars. That said, nobody expected him to hurt his team either, which is what ended up happening against the Raiders.
In Week 12, Jones was flagged twice for offensive holding. The Jaguars ended with eight penalties for the game, so you could say that the former Mississippi State Golden Eagle was responsible for 25 percent of the team's totals, which isn't a good look.
Arik Armstead, defensive end
Defensive end Arik Armstead had a sack against the Raiders. Nobody will take that way for him, but he was also slapped with offside penalties in back-to-back plays, offsetting the positive impact he had in the game.
Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker were also flagged for offsides. Linebacker Foyesade Oluokun was also flagged for defensive holding, showing that the defense as a whole is playing without discipline. This doesn't bode well for Ryan Nielsen, who was supposed to put an emphasis on fundamentals and technique but has instead overseen one of the worst units in the league.
Ultimately, there weren't many bright spots for the Jaguars aside from maybe Brian Thomas Jr. The silver lining is that they're not back in the race for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That should account for something in a season in which not many things have gone the way Jacksonville probably expected.
