The Jacksonville Jaguars took care of a huge offseason priority, giving Brenton Strange a three-year extension worth $48 million. The deal makes him one of the five highest-paid tight ends but also gives the team plenty of flexibility, so you can easily say it was a win for everyone.

For his part, Strange is thrilled to see his work pay off but is also aware that his payday comes with responsibilities. Based on his latest remarks, he's locked

Brenton Strange is hyped up to sign an extension with the Jaguars

Brenton Strange met with the local media one day after signing his extension. He says that he's ecstatic about his deal, noting that he's happy to play for the Jaguars.

"You know, I feel like Duval's home to me, I take a lot of pride in going out there every Sunday, whenever we play, Monday, whatever it is, Thursday," Strange told reporters. "And just playing good for this city and playing good for this organization. So this is where I wanted to be. I'm happy here, and I'm just excited we got the deal done."

Later in the exchange, Strange said that he didn't know Jacksonville went 11-1 when he suited up and 2-3 when he wasn't available. However, he wants to do anything he can to help his team win.

"I wasn't aware of it at all, honestly, but it feels good to go out there and to be able to make plays with the guys, and to be able to contribute. That's all I want to do. I want to be a reliable playmaker for this team. Anything that they call on my number to do, I want to be able to do that, and I'm going to do it to the best of my abilities," Strange said.

"So, it felt good being out there with the guys. That's all I know, no, every single time we stepped out on the field, you feel the chemistry, you feel the passion that everybody has on the field, and that's just what I felt every single time. So, like I said, it's just exciting to be here to get it out of the way and continue to build. Enjoy your summer. Thank you."

That's the kind of message you want to hear from a player who just got a new deal. Sure, it's great to reap the rewards of your hard work, but the job isn't done, and he knows he needs to give his best if the Jaguars want to make a deep playoff run next season. Below is his full exchange with the press corps.

Strange's average of $18 million makes him the fourth-highest-paid tight end behind Trey McBride, George Kittle, and Kyle Pitts, who also signed an extension recently. However, his $25 million in guarantees ranks only 10th.

The Jaguars extended Brenton Strange at the right time

Brenton Strange's contract is far from a bargain, but it isn't cost-prohibitive, and by getting a deal done now, the Jaguars don't have to worry about the rates going up if fellow tight end Tucker Kraft had signed an extension.

Like Strange, Kraft is eligible for a new deal. He's among the top tight ends in the NFL but is coming off a season-ending injury. That may have been slowing down negotiations with him and the Green Bay Packers. Either way, Jacksonville moved fast and struck a deal, so whatever amount Kraft gets won't affect Strange.

Having taken care of Brenton Strange, the Jaguars can continue signing their homegrown talent. Parker Washington should be next.
