The Jacksonville Jaguars already had a pretty good wide receiver corps, but they rounded it out with a pair of draft picks. Now, they have a nice mix of talent and depth at the position. You could even make the case that it's one of their biggest strengths.
That said, an NFL insider argues that the Jags could add further reinforcements to Trevor Lawrence's arsenal of weapons, and brought up a surprise name (even if it probably doesn't make sense).
The Jaguars as seen a trade destination for Eagles WR A.J. Brown
Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom recently wrote that the Eagles are still expected to trade A.J. Brown next season and mentioned Jacksonville as a potential landing spot, citing a league executive who believes they are a potential fit for the three-time receiver.
"Jags receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has regressed and has been the subject of trade rumors and 2026 top pick Travis Hunter is going to be playing way more cornerback than receiver moving forward and a vet like Brown could help fill a void there," La Canfora wrote.
La Canfora is right when he mentions that Thomas is coming off an underwhelming season, but the Jags have shown unwavering trust in the third-year receiver in spite of the outside noise. Heck, he's been the subject of trade chatter dating back to the 2025 deadline, and they still stand behind him.
On the other hand, it's true that Travis Hunter will play cornerback full-time next season, but he'll continue to have a role at receiver. Moreover, Jacksonville also has Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers in the mix. If that wasn't enough, the team's brass just drafted Josh Cameron and C.J. Williams.
This is a long-winded way to say that the Jags aren't in need of help at wide receiver as the executive suggests. Could they be interested in Brown? Maybe. It wouldn't be far-fetched to think that general manager James Gladstone hasn't considered the possibility, but a trade wouldn't make sense for several reasons.
Why the Jaguars wouldn't be a fit for A.J. Brown
Make no mistake, A.J. Brown is a heck of a receiver. While he hasn't been thrilled about his role with Philly the past two years, he's been highly productive in that span, hauling in 145 catches for 2,082 yards with 14 touchdowns. The Jaguars would love to add a receiver of that caliber to Trevor Lawrence's arsenal of weapons. Having said that, a trade is extremely unlikely for several reasons.
First, the Jags already have a well-rounded wide receiver group. Even if Brian Thomas Jr. doesn't recapture his rookie form (82 rec., 1,282 yards, 10 TDs), they have other players who can step up. Furthermore, Jacksonville is currently in contract talks with Parker Washington to reach a long-term extension. He's entering the last year of his rookie deal. If the team's brass brought in Brown, the odds of re-signing Washington would decrease considerably.
It's also worth noting that acquiring Brown wouldn't come cheap. The Jaguars would have to take on his contract and compensate the Eagles. That would be an unnecessary use of resources when you take into account that Jacksonville has bigger needs than the receiver.
There's no doubt that A.J. Brown would take the Jaguars offense to new heights, but it's not a fit from a personnel and financial standpoint.
