5 biggest winners from the Jaguars joint practice vs. the Buccaneers

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the brilliant idea of holding joint practices with all their preseason opponents. They'll be having two with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at EverBank Stadium before they play in the finale. Based on everything that's been reported, the first one was a resounding success.

Pewter Report posted on Twitter that the Jacksonville offense was having a field day against the Bucs. The defense also managed to contain Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers offense. So basically, things went as head coach Liam Coen envisioned. This begs the question, who managed to make the most of the joint practice?

With this in mind, here are the biggest winners from the Buccaners joint practice.

Trevor Lawrence, quarterback

Without a doubt, Trevor Lawrence was the Jaguar with the most to gain in the joints. No. 16 didn't suit up for the first two preseason games and probably won't play in the finale, so he could most definitely use all the work he could get.

John Shipley of Sports Illustrated reported that Lawrence connected with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. for a 40-yard gain on the first play of practice. He also found Parker Washington in double coverage. Simply put, the former Clemson Tiger showed that he's already in midseason form.

Montaric Brown, cornerback

The offense was the highlight of the joint practice, but the defense didn't stay behind. Cornerback Montaric Brown made his presence felt, picking off Baker Mayfield.

Later in the practice, Brown had tight coverage on Ted Hurst III and forced an incompletion. Looking back, there's a reason Jacksonville prioritized re-signing him in free agency.

Parker Washington, wide receiver

After a brief absence in training camp, Parker Washington returned to the Jags a couple days after the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. His first day of heavy action came against the Buccaneers. He didn't disappoint.

According to Logan B. Robinson of Sports Illustrated, Washington reeled in a touchdown pass in double coverage over Jacob Parrish and Antoine Winfield Jr.

But as impressive as that grab was, that wasn't the only time Lawrence connected with No. 11. He routinely dialed up his number throughout the practice. Expect to see their connection often next season.

Antonio Johson, safety

Montaric Brown wasn't the only Jaguar who had an interception off Baker Mayfield. Antonio Johnson was sitting in coverage, and the Buccaneers quarterback gifted Johnson a pick with a bad throw.

Sure, you could make the case that Johnson just happened to be at the right place at the right time, but the alternative was that he didn't capitalize on the mistake. Moreover, the former Texas A&M Aggie also ripped a ball out for a pass incompletion later, so the interception wasn't an outlier.

Josh Hines-Allen, defensive end

One big reason Josh Hines-Allen doesn't always pop up at the top of pass-rusher rankings is that he racks up pressures at a high rate, but his sack numbers pale in comparison to those of his peers. Well, he bucked the trend in the joint practice.

Mia O'Brien of Action News Jax reported that Hines-Allen wasn't unstoppable, registering three sacks, including a strip-sack, in just one period. Back in the offseason, the 2019 first-round pick said he was aiming at the sack record and winning the Defensive Player of the Year. If he can be as dominant in the regular season, maybe he'll pull it off.
