5 biggest Jaguars winners (& 2 losers) in tone-setting Week 1 win vs. Browns

Even though the Jacksonville Jaguars were an 8.5-point favorite to beat the Cleveland Browns, you probably didn't think that they would be in control from the start of the game and wouldn't take their foot off the gas pedal until the fourth quarter. In the end, the Jags proved to be too much for the Browns, beating them 34-10.

Jacksonville dominated in all three phases of the game. The offense had no trouble moving the ball, the defense stymied Deshaun Watson, and the special teams did its part, aside from allowing a 74-yard kickoff return in the third quarter.

But before the Jags move to Week 2, here are five winners (and two losers) from their tone-setting win vs. Cleveland in the season opener.

5 winners (and 2 losers) from the Jaguars' win vs. the Browns in Week 1

Winner: Trevor Lawrence, quarterback

NFL executives and head coaches don't think much of Trevor Lawrence, but maybe they need to start giving him his due after his electrifying Week 1 performance. Trevor Lawrence routinely seemed unfazed against Cleveland, going 18-of-23 for 245 yards with four touchdowns.

The Jags built such a comfortable lead that they took him off the field and put Nick Mullens in for mop-up duty in the fourth quarter.

Lawrence was arguably the best quarterback across the league in Week 1. He should join the early MVP conversation after shredding the Browns.

Winner: Bhayshul Tuten, running back

Running back was a question mark for Jacksonville after letting Travis Etienne walk in free agency. Bhayshul Tuten flashed as a rookie, but his inexperience raised doubts about his viability as a bell-cow. The former Virginia Tech Hokie successfully quelled concerns in Week 1, toting the rock 15 times for 66 yards. On top of that, he reeled in a 22-yard reception.

Tuten routinely got the tough yards when his number was called, so expect the Jags to keep feeding him the ball.

Winner: Parker Washington, wide receiver

No list of Week 1 winners would be complete without Parker Washington. No. 11, who made his presence felt from the get-go. No. 11 caught two passes on Jacksonville's first drive and scored the first touchdown of the game. He finished the contest with five catches for 83 yards with a touchdown.

If the Jags weren't sure whether they should pay Washington, they should no longer have concerns about his strong showing in the season opener.

Winner: Foyesade Oluokun, linebacker

Before Parker Washington scored, Foyesade Olukon made a strong statement to start the game when he picked off Deshaun Watson in Cleveland's first possession of the game.

Oluokun nearly intercepted Watson again later in the game. Overall, he showed that linebacker won't be a roster void in 2026 even though Devin Lloyd bolted for the Carolina Panthers in free agency.

Winner: Josh Hines-Allen, pass rusher

Josh Hines-Allen got off to a slow start last year, but that won't be the case in 2026. Already, the 2019 first-round pick reminded everyone why he's a mainstay of the Jacksonville defense, registering one sack, forcing a fumble, and recovering a fumble.

On a related note, teammate Travon Walker also showed out, registering 1.5 sacks. Without a doubt, the Jaguars have one of the best pass-rush tandems in the league.

Loser: Emmanuel Pregnon, offensive lineman

You know your team was nearly flawless when you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find a "loser." Rookie Emmanuel Pregnon got the nod this time, as he gave up two total pressures and the lone sack the Jaguars allowed.

In his defense, this was Pregnon's first NFL start, and given that he's making the leap to the pros, an adjustment period is to be expected.

Loser: Montaric Brown

The Jaguars routinely neutralized Deshaun Watson, and it wasn't until the very end of the game that he found KC Concepcion for a 46-yard touchdown bomb. Cornerback Montaric Brown was in coverage.

Then again, the former Arkansas Razorback had played well up until that moment, and the game was already out of reach, so he kind of gets a pass because it was simply too little, too late.
