The Jacksonville Jaguars are the best team in Florida now

The National Football League provides everyone with incredible entertainment year in and year out. The state of Florida is lucky to have three teams in the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The sunshine state sure does love its football.

Until Tom Brady made his way from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, the three Florida teams haven’t had that much recent success. The Bucs did win the Super Bowl in Tom Brady’s first year there so they had the mantle of “best team in Florida” for a while.

The funny thing is, all three teams made the postseason in 2022-23 but none of them were dominant for the entire season. They were also all fringe playoff teams as well. Jacksonville (9-8) and Tampa Bay (8-9) each won their division because both the AFC South and NFC South were horrible.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins also went 9-8 like the Jaguars but they made it in as a wild-card team. They dealt with injury troubles all season long, including their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who had a really good year when he was on the field.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were part of a good NFL season for the state of Florida.

Despite putting up a good fight and scaring the Buffalo Bills on Super Wild Card Weekend, the Dolphins weren’t able to pull out a postseason win. The Buccaneers, on the other hand, were destroyed that very same weekend by the Dallas Cowboys. That will forever be known as the final game of Tom Brady’s career.

One team did win its first playoff game, however, and that was the Jaguars. They had to erase a 27-point defect in the game to do so but they took down the Los Angeles Chargers. One week later, they lost to the number one seeded and eventual Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs by one score.

Obviously, that is not the kind of playoff loss that you feel sorry for yourself after. There were a lot of mistakes that the young Jags made that cost them the game. This off-season will be about going to school on that game in addition to improving their roster. Beating the Chiefs is extremely important in the AFC these days.

Now that the Buccaneers no longer have Brady combined with the uncertainty surrounding the Miami Dolphins, it is clear that the Jaguars are the best NFL team in Florida. They very well could remain the best team in Florida for a long time too which is very exciting.

Next on the list of goals is becoming the best team in the AFC. With teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals in the mix, it is going to be hard. With Trevor Lawrence at the helm, anything is possible.

Once they are the best in the AFC, winning the Super Bowl is the goal. For now, however, it is cool to sit here in February knowing that the Jaguars are the best in Florida.
