One of the many reasons Trevor Lawrence improved last season was that the Jacksonville Jaguars got him several weapons in free agency. Besides signing him wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, the Jags also added tight end Evan Engram, who is set to hit the open market once again after posting career numbers in 2022. Lawrence doesn’t Engram to leave and is letting the organization know how he feels on a recent post on social media.

Just recently, Jacksonville posted a picture of Engram and his accomplishments in 2022 on Twitter. At the time, Engram said his heart nearly dropped because he thought the team was announcing a new deal. Lawrence also caught wind of the post and said that last year was “just the start”.

The former Clemson Tiger later clarified his remarks and emphasized that his comment wasn’t an announcement of an incoming deal but rather an endorsement of his teammate.

Free agency is less than three weeks away and if the Jaguars and Engram can’t agree to a deal, the organization could use the franchise tag to ensure that he doesn’t hit the open market. On the bright, it doesn’t look like Jacksonville will resort to the tag. Just a few days ago, Engram said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that there’s is interest in both parties to get a deal done, so unless something suddenly comes up, there’s a good chance the former Ole Miss Rebel will return in 2023. Here’s Lawrence’s post on Twitter.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence would love to have Evan Engram back

The Jaguars ranked 10th in the NFL in points scored last season and they could be even better with wide receiver Calvin Ridley potentially returning from the suspension he’s serving for betting on football games. Back on February 15, Field Yates of ESPN took a look at how the Jacksonville offense could look if Engram returns and Ridley is reinstated. The truth is that it looks promising, which is why it’s hard to fault Lawrence for wanting the Jags to re-sign Engram.

All things considered, it makes sense for the Jags to re-sign Engram. He developed a nice rapport with Lawrence last year and went on to post career numbers and set team records and there’s a strong chance the duo will put up even better numbers in their second year together.

Sure, the Jaguars could take one of the top tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, re-signing Evan Engram would allow them to focus on addressing other needs, such as cornerback or pass rusher.

Everybody, including Lawrence, is waiting for a resolution and it might be a matter of time before the Jaguars announced they’ve at last brought Engram back. Once they do, expect fans and players to take to social media to celebrate the return of the tight end.
