Several players exceeded expectations for the Jacksonville Jaguars and went on to fill in key roles in 2022. Trevor Lawrence might be the first one that comes to mind but there were others, such as safety Rayshawn Jenkins, who bounced back after a down season. Similarly, rookie center Luke Fortner was a Day 1 starter and became a mainstay of the Jags’ offensive line.

Conversely, there were players the Jaguars were counting on to make an impact but failed to meet expectations last season. Here are five such players.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars underachiever in 2022: Dan Arnold, TE

Head coach Doug Pederson likes to feature tight ends on his offense, so it looked like Dan Arnold was going to have a big role in 2022 despite the addition of Evan Engram last offseason. However, Arnold hardly saw any playing time and was phased out in favor of Chris Manhertz.

Arnold arrived in Jacksonville via trade after Week 3 of the 2021 season and quickly became one of Trevor Lawrence’s favorite targets, catching 27 passes for 315 yards from Weeks 4 to 9. However, he suffered an MCL injury in Week 11 that cut his season short.

Even though Arnold delivered last year, he appeared in just 15 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and hauled in nine receptions for 135 yards. In fact, he was brought up as a potential trade candidate due to his limited role on offense.

Arnold, along with Manhertz and Engram, is set to become a free agent and might want to sign with a team where he’ll get more playing time.
