No. 3 Jacksonville Jaguars player who might not return: Corey Peters, DT

The Jaguars signed defensive tackle Corey Peters once the 2022 season had already started but he proved to be a valuable pickup. At 34, he showed he’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank. The former Kentucky Wildcat appeared in 12 games with three starts and played 32 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.

A third-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2010, Peters was part of a defensive line rotation that struggled to apply pressure up front and stop the run early in the season but eventually tightened up. He originally joined the Jaguars’ practice squad but was signed to the active roster in October, which goes on to display how high the team’s brass was on him.

Despite the fact that Peters didn’t have a feature role on the Jacksonville defense, he posted eight total pressures, 20 total tackles, and five tackles for a loss, solid numbers for a defensive tackle. Also, the Kentucky native finished the season with a respectable 66.4 Pro Football Focus overall grade.

While it makes sense for the Jaguars to bring back Peters once again in a rotation role, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them go in a different direction, especially if they want to get younger. As a matter of fact, the Jaguars could take a defensive tackle in this year’s draft despite the fact that tight end and cornerback might be bigger needs.

Clemson’s Bryan Bresee is among the top prospects at the position and Josh Edwards of CBS Sports projects that the Jags will draft him. If Jacksonville does take a defensive tackle, Peters’ chances of returning will take a hit.
