Waffle House might not be the first place you think of when you want to celebrate a special occasion but that’s where Trevor Lawrence and his teammates went following the Jacksonville Jaguars’ stunning win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Super Wild Card Weekend. Patrick Mahomes caught wind of the story and gave his seal of approval.

The Jags and the Kansas City Chiefs will face each other in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs and Mahomes met with the media ahead of the game. He touched on several topics and said that going to the Waffle House was a baller move by Lawrence.

“I can’t remember how I celebrated my first playoff win”, Mahomes said. “Probably with a couple of Coors Light, but it wasn’t at Waffle House. That’s a baller move. Maybe if we win this one, I’ll figure somewhere to go that can match that”.

Lawrence told the media that he had promised teammates Brandon Scherff and E.J. Perry that they would go to Waffle House after the game because neither had tried it before. He added that his wife, Marissa, made the reservation. Here’s a video of the dinner. Besides Lawrence, Scherff, and Perry, you can see tight end Dan Arnold, offensive tackle Walker Little, and backup quarterback C.J. Beathard.

During his exchange with the media, Mahomes also praised Lawrence for bouncing back after throwing four picks against the Chargers.

“That’s tough. Four interceptions, especially in the first half, even if it’s your fault or not. That kind of slips through your mind. ‘What decisions am I going to make going forward? Do I protect it? Or do I stay aggressive? But he battled through, that’s a true test of a competitor”, Mahomes said.

Down 27-0 in the second quarter, it seemed like the Jaguars were going to lose to the Chargers. However, they fought back and win with a last-minute field goal by Riley Patterson. Just as Lawrence was a big reason they were trailing, he also played a big role in the comeback win, throwing four touchdown passes.

Jacksonville will next face a Chiefs team that has no trouble putting points on the scoreboard. Lawrence can’t afford to turn the ball so many times and the Jags must get off to a hot start if they want to advance to the Conference Championship.
