No Jaguars player makes the 2022 All-Pro team but the future is bright
The Jacksonville Jaguars made the playoffs and won the AFC South in 2022 and they did without any of their players making the 2022 NFL All-Pro.
The Associated Press announced the 2022 All-Pro team and no Jaguar was included. While this isn’t breaking news, there was a glimmer of hope players such as cornerback Tyson Campbell or right guard Brandon Scherff, who made the cut in 2022, would make this year’s roster. Both Campbell and Scherff ended up getting votes but neither got the nod. Punter Logan Cooke and return specialist Jamal Agnew also got votes but didn’t make it.
There are 50 AP voters and this is the first year they can cast two votes, which led to more players getting more votes. The first vote is worth three points and the second one is worth one point. In previous years, they only had one and if one player got all 50 of them, the second-team All-Pro slot for that position would remain vacant.
This actually happened in 2020, when Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got all 50 votes and the second-team slot was vacant even though Darren Waller of the Las Vegas Raiders was deserving.
Besides not having any of their players make the 2022 All-Pro team, the Jags also failed to send a representative to the Pro Bowl. The last time a Jaguar earned a first-team All-Pro designation was in 2017 when both cornerback Jalen Ramsey and defensive end Calais Campbell got it.
The Jaguars are trending in the right direction despite the lack of All-Pros
Despite the lack of All-Pro selections in 2022, the Jags’ future is bright. They just made the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and have a core of playmakers in place.
Even though Trevor Lawrence didn’t get All-Pro consideration, he played like a top-10 quarterback in 2022 and has brought stability to the position. But Lawrence isn’t the only playmaker Jacksonville has. Tyson Campbell is an ascending cornerback.
Wide receiver Christian Kirk lived up to expectations after signing a top-market contract in free agency and Calvin Ridley is set to join the team once the suspension he’s serving is lifted. Also of note, they spent the season putting an end to several undesirable streaks.
The Jags ended a 20-game losing skid when they beat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15. Coincidentally, the streak started when they lost to the Cowboys in 2018. Moreover, they beat the Tennessee Titans at Nashville for the first time since 2013 and also swept their division foes, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 2017.
Another reason the Jaguars are set beyond 2022 is the presence of head coach Doug Pederson. He helped them heal and regain the players’ trust following the Urban Meyer debacle. He pressed the right buttons and kept them focused throughout the year in the midst of a five-game losing streak at the midpoint of the season.
While it would have been to see a Jaguar make the All-Pro in 2022, there are other reasons to be hyped up. For example, they will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Wild Card Weekend and there’s a good chance they’ll advance to the divisional round of the playoffs.
