Jaguars RB Travis Etienne goes off vs. Texans, breaks off 62-yard TD run
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense revolves around Trevor Lawrence but running back Etienne has also proven to be an important piece of the puzzle, breaking off a 62-yard touchdown run against the Houston Texans in Week 17.
This was Etienne’s first touchdown since Week 9 and his fifth one this season. Getting him involved early in the game was a key to beating Houston and that’s precisely what the coaching staff has done. As of this writing, the former Clemson Tiger has toted the rock five times for 99 yards and a trip to the end zone.
The Jags are 7-7 and in the thick of the playoff race. But they don’t need to beat the Texans to get in. Nevertheless, Jacksonville isn’t holding any punches and are seemed decided to beat their division foes. Here’s a clip of Etienne’s electrifying run:
Not long after Etienne’s touchdown, defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi forced Davis Mills to fumble and cornerback Tyson Campbell recovered the ball and took it to the house, giving the Jags a 21-0 lead with plenty of time left in the second quarter. Here’s a video of Campbell’s defensive touchdown.
The Jaguars are going full steam against the Texans in Week 17
The Jaguars haven’t beaten Houston since 2017, so even though this game doesn’t affect their chances of winning the AFC South and making the playoffs, they’re trying to put away their division rivals as soon as possible. Already, Christian Kirk has crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the season and set a career best for receptions with 78.
Although Lawrence was picked off by cornerback Desmond King, the Jaguars managed to get back the ball back on downs. Having said that, Jacksonville can’t let mistakes start to pile up. They need to turn the page and keep scoring if they want to come out of NRG Stadium with their eighth win of the season.
