The Jacksonville Jaguars have undergone a makeover in head coach Doug Pederson’s first season at the helm. They’re on the brink of making the playoffs and winning the AFC South for the first time since 2017.

The downside of improving so much in 2022 is that the bar will be raised next season and anything short of making the playoffs next year might be considered a failure, which is why the front office needs to replenish the roster and keep adding playmakers in the offseason.

On the bright side, the Jacksonville roster isn’t devoid of talent and there are some position groups that won’t require much attention. With that in mind, here are the Jaguars’ four biggest strengths ahead of the 2023 season.

Heading into the 2022 season, the Jaguars’ safety group didn’t look like a strength but it’s fair to say that they’ve exceeded expectations. Sophomore Andre Cisco joined the starting lineup and has put on display the skills that made him a difference-maker at the collegiate level. After spending most of his rookie campaign on the bench, the former Syracuse Orangeman has logged three interceptions and nine passes defensed.

Rayshawn Jenkins has bounced back from a somewhat down season and has turned into a key cog in the Jaguars’ secondary, registering three picks and 11 batted passes. Andrew Wingard, who now fills a reserve role has become a core leader and played well when called upon. Daniel Thomas, who started a couple of games as a rookie back in 2020 is still under contract for one more season.

Wingard is the only safety on the Jaguars’ roster that is set to become a free agent next offseason, and if the front office can’t bring him back, they could use a mid or late-round pick to restock the unit.
