The Jacksonville Jaguars know that they need to beat the New York Jets in Week 16 if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. So far, they’ve taken care of business and are leading 10-3 in the second quarter thanks to a rushing touchdown by Trevor Lawrence.

The Jaguars’ offense got off to a bad start. On their first offensive drive, defensive tackle Quinnen, who was questionable for the game, Williams beat left guard Tyler Shatley and went on to sack Trevor Lawrence, who fumbled during the play. The Jets recovered and got a short field.

On the bright side, the defense kept Zach Wilson,  who is filling in for Mike While, and the Jets’ offense in check. They couldn’t get their running game going and Jaguars safety Andre Cisco sacked Wilson on a third down, which forced New York to settle for a field goal.

Jacksonville fared much better on their second possession. Travis Etienne found room to run and tight end Evan Engram caught a 22-yard pass that helped the offense get a fresh set of downs. However, they stalled once they got to New York’s end zone and Riley Patterson made a 32-yard kick to tie the game.

The Jaguars’ defense forced a quick stop and the offense got the ball back. This time, they had no trouble marching down the field. Lawrence capped a 16-play, 96-yard drive with a rushing touchdown.

The Jaguars have the edge vs. the Jets in Week 16

So far, Lawrence is 6-of-9 for 105 yards. Etienne has tallied 56 yards on 13 carries and tight end Evan Engram is the team’s leading receiver with four catches for 77 yards.

The Jets’ defensive front has created pressure upfront but the Jags’ offensive line has been able to hold ground. Right guard Brandon Scherff left the game for a bit and Blake Hence took his spot in the lineup but he’s back.

While the Jags’ lead isn’t that big, they have a shot to win this one if they can keep engineering a few scoring drives and their defense can keep Zach Wilson in check.
