The Jacksonville Jaguars led the Baltimore Ravens 10-9 following a slow start in Week 12. However, their offense went dormant in the third quarter, and for a moment, it looked like the Jags were on their way to losing for the nth time this season. But their offense woke up near the end of the third quarter. Once they stepped on the gas pedal, they didn’t take their foot off and upset the Ravens 28-27.

Trevor Lawrence forced a fumble in the third quarter that led to the Ravens’ first touchdown of the game. Down 19-10, it looked like the Jags weren’t going to answer back.  But then, Lawrence moved the chains and kept a drive alive when he found Zay Jones for a 28-yard pass on fourth-and-8. Lawrence connected with wide receiver Jamal Agnew on a one-yard touchdown seven plays later and drew the Jags within 19-17.

In the following Ravens’ drive, Jaguars safety Andrew Wingard forced running back Gus Edwards to fumble and cornerback Tyson Cambell recovered. The offense then proceeded to kick a field goal, which put Jacksonville up 20-19.

The Jaguars refused to surrender and came through vs. the Ravens

But the Ravens weren’t ready to give up just yet and former Jaguars tight end Josh Oliver caught a 12-yard touchdown that capped a six-play-75-yard drive. Baltimore wasn’t done though and successfully converted on a two-point attempt instead of going for the field goal.

Down 27-20, the Jaguars had less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Trevor Lawrence then did something he hadn’t been able to do in his career: Mount a comeback. He completed passes to Zay Jones, Christian Kirk, and Marvin Jones Jr. on his way to Baltimore’s end zone.

A touchdown pass to Marvin Jones capped a 10-play, 70-yard drive. But knowing that future favors the bold, Doug Pederson made the gutsy decision to go for two points. Lawrence looked for Jones and Jacksonville took the lead once again. On a last-ditch effort, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker attempted a 67-yard field goal but it wasn’t good.

The Jaguars’ offense fell asleep at the wheel vs. the Ravens

The Jaguars’ defense deserves credit for holding the Ravens to four field goals for most of the game and they shouldn’t be blamed for allowing two touchdowns in the fourth quarter without much help from the offense.

Similarly, Trevor Lawrence and the offense deserve praise for mounting a comeback when it looked like the Jags didn’t have a chance to win. They struggled to move the ball for most of the game but when it mattered the most, they came through.

Lawrence had arguably the best game of his NFL career. Outside the fumble, he didn’t make the kind of mistakes that have previously come back to haunt the Jags. The former Clemson Tiger went 29-of-37 for 321 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. The fact that he did it with running back Travis Etienne makes this even more impressive.

The Jaguars should feel good about themselves following their win over the Ravens. Not only did Lawrence take an important step in his development but they also managed to win. Moreover, they get to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. How cool is that?
