The Jacksonville Jaguars are slowly putting away the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 of the 2022 season. Time is running out for the Colts and it’s hard to see them coming back from a 24-point deficit.

With 1:07 left in the third quarter, the Jaguars decided to go for it on fourth-and-1 at the Colts 5-yard line. Trevor Lawrence got out of the pocket and connected with wide receiver Christian Kirk for a touchdown.

This was Kirk’s second trip to the end zone of the game. Earlier today, he capped a 15-play, 68-yard drive with a 10-yard receiving touchdown. It’s worth noting the caption of the Tweet, “worth every penny”. This is a reference to the fact that Kirk was seemingly overpaid in the free agency, which has turned out not to be the case.

Running back James Robinson scored the Jags’ other touchdown of the game, a 37-yard run. As of this writing, the former Illinois State Redbird has toted the rock 17 times for 61 yards. Meanwhile, Trevor Lawrence is 23-of-27 for 227 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Jaguars’ defense has also done its part. After logging just one sack against the Washington Commanders in the season opener, they brought Matt Ryan down five times. Outside linebacker Josh Allen has logged two times while defensive end Arden Key, defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris and defensive tackle Adam Gotsis have one each. Furthermore, Rayshawn Jenkins recorded one interception in the Colts’ first possession of the game.

The Jaguars are close to getting their first win of the 2022 NFL season

The Colts are missing their top two receivers, Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr., and All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard, so you could argue that they didn’t have a hold deck. But that’s not something the Jaguars can control, so you can’t hold that against them.

In fact, Jacksonville deserves praise for taking advantage of the situation and making the best of the situation. Instead of squandering the opportunity, all the Jaguars’playmakers stepped up.

Neutralizing Jonathan Taylor has been huge. In the first half, the Jags’ defense held him to four yards on five carries. He eventually topped 51 rushing yards but by then, the game was pretty much out of reach for Indy.

As long as the Jaguars don’t make any bonehead mistakes for the remainder of the game, they should get their first win of the 2022 season.
