The Jaguars didn’t draft a wide receiver this year but they signed Kevin Austin Jr. and LuJuan Winningham not long after. The former was one of the most prominent undrafted free agents Jacksonville added this year but the latter has been the one making the most noise over the last couple of months.

Winningham hauled in 53 receptions for 840 yards and five touchdowns for Central Arkansas last season. The Texas native has made the most of his opportunities and might have a realistic shot to make the Jags’ 53-man roster. Although he has a steep hill to climb, he made a positive impression in minicamp and his performance has carried over into training camp.

Jordan de Lugo of Generation Jaguar dubbed Winningham one of the stars on the first day of padded practices. The rookie wide receiver got the spotlight the day before for how vocal he was, showing he isn’t lacking confidence and isn’t overwhelmed in his transition to the NFL.

Still, Winningham might have a hard time making the team due to how stacked the Jaguar’s wide receiver corps is. However, he’s making a strong case and if he ends up getting cut before the start of the season, which might be the most likely scenario, the front office had better prioritize signing him to the practice squad, and let him develop.
