The Jaguars took an aggressive approach in free agency

Back in 2020, the Jaguars hardly spent any money in free agency. They were a bit more active last year but they focused on acquiring second and third-tier players instead of making any splash signings. The team’s brass changed their approach this offseason and armed with tops of cap space, they went on a shopping spree.

The Jaguars had around $56-$58 million in cap room earlier this year and they used up most of it in free agency. They were criticized for giving top-market contracts to some of the players they acquired but it’s hard to disagree with their approach when you take into account that they had many holes to fill and the money to do so. Here’s a recap of all the players they acquired.

Significant free-agent acquisitions

Brandon Scherff, RG: Signed a three-year deal worth $49.5 million.

Christian Kirk, WR: Agreed to a four-year, $72 million contract.

Zay Jones, WR: Signed a three-year deal worth $24 million.

Folorunso Fatukasi, DL: Inked a three-year deal worth $30 million.

Foyesade Oluokun, LB: Signed a three-year contract worth $45 million.

Darious Williams, CB: Signed a three-year, $30 million deal.

Arden Key, DE: Signed a one-year deal worth $4 million.

Evan Engram, TE: Signed a one-year contract worth $9 million.

Ryan Santoso, K: Signed a one-year deal worth $895,000.

Xavier Crawford, CB: Inked a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

Worth mentioning: Before the start of free agency, left tackle Cam Robinson signed a three-year contract worth $54 million. Most of the players the front office signed in free agency are set to get starting or prominent roles this year.
