The Jacksonville Jaguars needed to fortify their roster in the offseason, so they made good use of their surplus of cap space and made several splash signings in free agency. Although they couldn’t address all their needs, most position groups look in better shape than they did last year.

And while the Jags handed out some big contracts earlier, they also have a few bargains on the roster. With that in mind, here are the best five deals (not including rookies) on the roster right now.

5th best contract on the Jaguars roster: Darious Williams, CB

Contract: 3-year, $30 million – 2022 cap number: $6.9 million

Not many people will consider a deal worth $30 million a bargain but when you take into account that the Jaguars got a pretty good starting cornerback for that amount, it looks like they paid a fair amount for Darious Williams.

An undrafted free agent in 2018, Williams signed with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Los Angeles Rams that same year. The former UAB Blazer worked his way up the depth chart and progressively saw an uptick in playing time. Over the last three seasons, he appeared in 43 games with 26 starts and logged six interceptions and 26 pass defenses.

It’s worth noting that Williams fared well in coverage even though he often played opposite Jalen Ramsey, which incentivized opposing teams to target him often. Now in Jacksonville, he will probably line up at nickel in Mike Caldwell’s defense but he can move outside if needed.

The Jaguars had already signed Shaquill Griffin last offseason but they couldn’t pass up the chance to add Williams this year. They now have three starting cornerbacks, along with depth at the position, ahead of training camp.
