The Jacksonville Jaguars needed to revamp their roster this offseason, so they made use of their surplus of cap space. They came out of free agency with a pretty good haul, even if they ‘overpaid’ for some of the players they signed.

On the other hand, there are other players the Jaguars passed on in free agency that could have helped them. Here are four they should have pursued.

No. 4 free agent the Jaguars should’ve signed: Russell Gage, WR

Wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones were two of the Jaguars’ most scrutinized signings in free agency because their past production isn’t on par with the contracts they signed. Time will tell if they will live up to expectations but Jacksonville believes they can give become key cogs in their passing game. Having said that, the Jags should have considered signing Rusell Gage and not Jones.

Previous to signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency, Gage had spent his whole career with the Atlanta Falcons. A sixth-round pick in 2018, the former LSU Tiger, hardly got any playing time as a rookie, logging six percent of the offensive snaps. But his role progressively grew and went on to haul in 187 receptions for 2,002 yards with nine touchdowns in the last three years. Those are better numbers than the ones Jones posted during the same snap (88, 916, 2 TDs).

Gage got a three-year contract worth $30 million from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the appeal of catching passes from Tom Brady might have been too good to pass up. However, the Jaguars should have made an aggressive effort to secure his services. He was a tad more expensive than Jones but he’s had the more productive career of the two, so he would have been worth the extra amount.
