Jaguars training camp 2022: 5 storylines to keep an eye on
No. 1 Jaguars training camp storyline to watch – The offense
The 2021 season is one the Jaguars surely want to forget. Even though they had a promising young quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, they struggled to move the ball and put points on the scoreboard. There are many reasons Jacksonville’s offense ranked last in scoring last season, with the top two being their lack of a cohesive plan and the dearth of talent. Fortunately, the team’s brass took care of both during the offseason.
First, the Jaguars hired Doug Pederson to fill the void left by Urban Meyer after an extensive search. Pederson brings instant credibility to Jacksonville, having helped the Philadelphia Eagles win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Moreover, he did it with Nick Foles (remember him?) as his quarterback.
It’s uncertain if Pederson will be able to get the Jags on the right path. But so far, he’s done a good job of gaining his player’s trust and installing his vision. He will now need to squeeze every ounce of talent out of Lawrence and to make sure that happens, the front office has surrounded the young quarterback with more weapons, having signed wide receivers Zay Jones and Christian Kirk, and tight end Evan Engram in free agency.
The trio of newcomers is expected to make an impact right off the bat, so developing chemistry with Lawrence during training camp will be paramount for the Jaguars’ success in 2022. Also, it will be interesting to see what kind of roles Marvin Jones Jr., Laquon Treadwell, Laviska Shenault Jr., and Dan Arnold will get.
