5 Jacksonville Jaguars who won’t be around after the 2022 season
No. 4 Jaguars player who won’t be around in 2023: Jawaan Taylor, RT
Right tackle Jawaan Taylor’s tenure with the Jaguars has been a mixed bag. On one hand, he has started every single game since he was drafted in 2019. That kind of availability deserves recognition when you take into account that injuries are an inherent part of a collision sport such as football.
Having said that, Taylor hasn’t been particularly great. In fact, you could argue that he’s underachieved. The former Florida Gator showed flashes as a rookie but has regressed in the last two seasons. In 49 games, he’s committed 32 penalties, some of them in critical moments. Similarly, he’s given up a staggering 99 pressures over the last two years. That’s not the kind of production you want from your starting right tackle, which is why he will have to compete for his job in training camp with sophomore Walker Little.
So let’s say Taylor beats Little and plays at a high level. He’s set to become a free agent next offseason and the Jaguars won’t probably re-sign after committing significant resources to left tackle Cam Robinson and right tackle Brandon Scherff in free agency. The team’s brass is better plugging Little at right tackle next year or selecting an offensive tackle early in the 2023 draft, as Joe Marino of The Draft Network suggested.
There’s also a scenario in which Little wins the right tackle job and Taylor hits the bench. Either way, the Jaguars have options at right tackle next year, and plenty of them won’t include Taylor.
