No. 3 best Jaguars player under 25 in 2022 – Tyson Campbell, CB

You could make the case that cornerback Tyson Campbell was a revelation in his rookie season. Despite the fact that the Jaguars had already signed Shaquill Griffin in free agency and re-signed Sidney Jones and Tre Herndon, they went on to take the former Georgia Bulldog with the 33rd overall pick in the draft. What made this selection even more puzzling was that tight end, left tackle and wide receiver were bigger needs at the time. One year later, the decision to draft Campbell was a smart one with the benefit of hindsight.

Keep in mind that not everything was sunshine and flowers for the Florida native during his rookie campaign, as he experienced growing pains throughout the offseason and early in the regular season. He was pressed into the starting lineup when Herndon suffered an MCL injury and while he struggled early on, the decision to play him from Day 1 ended up paying off.

Campbell dealt with a toe injury and lined up in the slot early in the season but once he moved to the boundaries, he started to progressively improve. He became a key cog and ended up leading the Jaguars with two interceptions. While that’s nothing to brag about, it was a step in the right direction and it showed the Jags had found themselves a starting cornerback.

The Jaguars signed Darious Campbell in free agency but there’s no indication the coaching staff intends to give Campbell a diminished role this upcoming season. Quite the contrary, they will try to untap his potential.
