No. 3 free agent the Jaguars could still sign – Quinton Spain, OG.

The Cincinnati Bengals became the NFL’s darling in 2021 after going from one of the worst teams in the league to facing off against the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 56. Quarterback Joe Burrow’s huge leap in Year 2 played a big role in Cincy’s turnaround, and so did star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

But in spite of their surprising Super Bowl run, the Bengals had several question marks, mainly their offensive line, which often failed to protect Burrow and might have cost them a win on Championship Sunday. The bright spot of the bunch was left guard Quinton Spain, who didn’t perform at an All-Pro level but carried out his assignment more often than not.

An undrafted free agent in 2015, Spain signed with the Tennesse Titans, where he spent his first four NFL seasons and appeared and made 48 starts. He then signed with the Buffalo Bills before joining the Bengals’ practice squad and later their starting lineup. The West Virginia product made 16 starts in 2021. He allowed 24 total pressures and five sacks in the regular season and earned a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 72.9.

In Jacksonville, Spain would have to compete with Ben Bartch to start at left guard. This is the first year Bartch is entering training camp as the starter and a battle for the job wouldn’t hurt him one bit. Quite the contrary, as the Jags would have two solid options at the position.
