The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the process of preparing for the 2022 NFL season. While head coach Doug Pederson and his staff are installing his program, the front office is assessing the roster for any potential weaknesses and areas of improvement. All things considered, the Jags did a good job of revamping the roster this offseason, signing several players in free agency, and fortifying the defense in the draft.

The team’s brass might not make any additional moves any time soon but there are a few players still available in the open market and they could ink or two if they chose to. Jacksonville currently has around $7 million in cap space, per Over The Cap, but they should be able to find a way to sign anyone if they’re truly interested. In particular, the Jaguars shouldn’t rule out targeting these five free agents.

JC Tretter became a trendy name once Jaguars veteran center Brandon Linder retired earlier this year, and it’s easy to see why. The Cornell graduate has been one of the top centers in the NFL for several years and has missed just one game since signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2017.

Tretter allowed just ten pressures and one sack in 2021. Moreover, he posted a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 78.8 despite the fact that he dealt with knee and ankle injuries through a good chunk of the season. If that wasn’t enough has posted a mark below 70.0 just once over the last five years.

Tyler Shatley will tentatively start for the Jaguars in Week 1. He’s made 18 starts over the last two seasons and is up to the task of replacing Linder. However, Tretter would be a significant upgrade at center.
