5 Jacksonville Jaguars players to build around for future success
Having the right head coach in place is key for an NFL team’s future success. The Jacksonville Jaguars know this firsthand, having gone through the Urban Meyer debacle in 2021. However, there’s only so much a head coach can do and the front office must get him good players.
Although the Jags haven’t had a player represent them in the Pro Bowl since 2019, they do have some difference-makers on the roster and they must build around these five if they want to lay the foundation for future success.
No. 1 Jaguars player to build around – Tyson Campbell, CB.
Shaquill Griffin is the leader of the Jaguars secondary but he isn’t the only talented corner in Jacksonville. Sophomore Tyson Campbell went through some rough stretches as a rookie but steadily got better as the season progressed.
The former Georgia Bulldog started off on the wrong foot, allowing five passes on five targets for 80 yards against the Houston Texans in Week 1. He didn’t fare much better in the next three games but it’s important to point out that he was dealing with a foot injury at that time and eventually had to sit out two games.
Once Campbell returned, he showed meaningful improvement and went on to allow just a 60 percent completion rate from Week 9 to 18. Also, he finished the year with 10 passes defensed and two interceptions. The Jaguars signed Darious Williams in free agency. The former Los Angeles Ram will get plenty of time right off the bat but it shouldn’t be at the expense of Campbell.
The Jags have a talented cornerback trio and while Campbell is the youngest of the bunch, he might be the one with the highest ceiling.
