The Jacksonville Jaguars made upgrades to their offense in free agency but they also invested meaningful resources in the defense. Moreover, five of their seven picks in this year’s draft were allocated to that side of the ball. Although this might seem like an excessive use of assets, it could pay significant dividends this upcoming season.

After all, the Jags are set to face some of the best quarterbacks in the league, and giving their defense a makeover will allow them to slow them down. With that in mind, here are the five toughest signal-callers Jacksonville will face in 2022.

No. 5 toughest QB the Jaguars will face in 2022 – Derek Carr, Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders Derek Carr is one of the most polarizing players you will find in the league. Critics will bring up his struggles to score in the red zone and his high volume of lost fumbles. Meanwhile, his supporters will rightfully point out that he’s hardly ever had a good supporting cast, and the one time he did, back in 2016, he had the best season of his career. While there is a bit of truth to both arguments, there’s no doubt Carr is a good quarterback that could give the Jaguars fits in Week 9.

This offseason, the Silver and Black traded for wide receiver Davante Adams, who will join Hunter Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller to give Carr an outstanding trio of targets. In spite of all the challenges the Raiders faced in 2021, Carr completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 4,804 yards with 14 interceptions. He should have even better numbers in 2022 due to the arrival of head coach Josh McDaniels.
