Trevor Lawrence earns endorsement of prominent NFL personality
Second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence is one of several Jacksonville Jaguars players that should improve considerably in 2022. And whether it’s fair or not, the Jags surely expect big things from him. Fortunately, one prominent NFL personality believes he’s up to the task.
Associated Press NFL award voter Adam Schein recently posted on NFL Media a list of nine bandwagons fans should hop on and Lawrence was among the players and team she mentioned. Schein points out that “Urban Meyer suffocated the entire Jaguars organization“, which in turn had a negative impact on his development. However, he believes head coach Doug Pederson will get the most out of the sophomore quarterback.
"Lawrence was billed as the next coming of John Elway and Andrew Luc — a dreamy, can’t-miss prospect at the game’s most important position. And I still believe it. Throw Year 1 out of th window. Heading into Year 2, the Jags built up the offense around in free agency. Not to mention, Lawrence actually gets to take the field once again with Travis Etienne. Jacksonville’s other Clemson first-rounder who missed the entire 2021 season with a Lisfranc injury. Lawrence is special and he’ll remained everyone of this in 2022."
Other teams, head coaches, and players that popped up on Schein’s bandwagon list are the Philadelphia Eagles, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers, the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams, Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman and Houston Texans offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton.
Trevor Lawrence has the tools and support to succeed.
You could make the case that this writer is beating a dead horse but not having Urban Meyer as the head coach should do wonders for Trevor Lawrence and other Jaguars players. No longer having to worry about their job security and being threatened, they can now focus on getting better and preparing for the 2022 season.
Since being hired as the head coach, Doug Pederson hasn’t been in the news for negative reasons. That might not sound like a big deal but Meyer was seemingly making headlines every single week, and now there’s a sense of normalcy around Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex. But having a competent coach isn’t the only reason Lawrence will improve in 2022.
The former Clemson Tiger didn’t suddenly stop being talented. He’s still the player he was when he entered the league but he is now in a position to succeed. Besides signing right guard Brandon Scherff and bringing back left tackle Cam Robinson, the Jags signed wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones in free agency. Moreover, they bolstered their tight end room with the addition of 2017 first-round pick Evan Engram.
It’s easy to see why Schein likes Lawrence and thinks he will make a leap in Year 2. He has a head coach that will help him develop, enough weapons on offense and the potential to turn into a great quarterback.
