4 outstanding qualities the Jacksonville Jaguars are taking into 2022
4. The Jaguars have a long-term answer at QB in Trevor Lawrence.
There’s no position with a higher impact on the football field than quarterback. That’s why teams are always looking to upgrade the position and are willing to pay a premium for an above-average one. Clubs that find a signal-caller in the draft don’t have to worry about looking for one for a long time and that’s precisely the situation the Jaguars currently find themselves in. They selected Trevor Lawrence with the top pick in last year’s selection meeting.
However, the Jaguars’ brass didn’t do a good job of putting Lawrence in a position to succeed in his rookie year. Besides not having a concise plan to develop the young passer, the front office didn’t surround him with an adequate supporting cast. In the end, Lawrence tried to put the team on his shoulders and do too much, which lead him to throw 17 interceptions, tied with Matthew Stafford for the most in the league.
Knowing they couldn’t fail Lawrence once again, the Jags spent the offseason building around him. They hired Doug Pederson as their head coach and he brought Press Taylor as his offensive coordinator and Mike McCoy as the quarterbacks coach. But the changes go beyond the coaching staff, Jacksonville also added several weapons in free agency, and fortified their offensive line.
Lawrence showed potential as a rookie and he should be able to turn those flashes into production in Year 2 thanks to all the changes the Jaguars have made this offseason.
